Former financial analyst turned real estate agent Flynn Sharpe is assigned the unenviable task of emptying a Park Slope building of its lesbian inhabitants and their beloved bar, Aunt Muffin's, to make way for a gentrifying development. Determined at first to get the job done post haste and quickly rise up in the ranks of the shark-infested real estate business, things turn complicated when he falls in love with rebel painter and proudly self-identified native New Yorker Nicole DeGioia, who lives and paints above the bar and has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon. I like that this book is about gentrification and what we are going through nowadays in New York. Many topics and social issues are covered and Kriegers way or analyzing and giving her opinion through her characters is interesting. Although I don't support some of her views on social class I can say this book was a definite interesting read. I would recommend it for sure.Product details

The world needs to understand the relationship between New Yorkers and the real estate vultures who have all but devoured the City we love. Lifelong New Yorker Silver Krieger captures it perfectly, and, miraculously, leaves you laughing! LOVE this book!
If you want a taste of New York City culture, particularly Brooklyn culture, particularly Park Slope culture, that is done in a funny, witty, self-deprecating voice this is the book to read. The characters are uniquely portrayed to show the full spectrum of what it means to be effected or the effector of gentrification in a funny and engaging way that will keep you laughing or at least smile through to the end. Definitely a great read and an author to watch.
Once I started to read, I couldn’t put this book down! The daily struggle, exemplified by the main characters, to establish a balance between career, relationships, financial responsibilities, etc. was incredibly relatable. On top of that, the author has the artistic finesse to shed light on the complex issue of gentrification, while providing the reader with real emotion, wit and humor. If you feel a connection to NYC, and/or have been lucky enough to live the Big Apple, this book cannot be missed!
I really enjoyed this book! Born and raised a New Yorker, I now live in California and I felt immediately transported and brought "up-to-date." Krieger clearly knows her self consumed Brooklyn and Manhatanites and the real estate industrial complex that consumes their reality. I smiled and laughed my way through the cast of characters...the dog named Xanax, purchased to be a fashion and status accessory--and that's just the beginning. This was a sassy, smart novel that I did not want to end.
This book is brilliant!!! Once I started it, I couldn't stop myself. I laughed out loud so many times that strangers approached me to find out what they were missing. I haven't had so much fun reading a novel since Catch-22 and A Confederacy of Dunces....and as you can imagine, that was a very long time ago.
But not only fun, it's also extremely smart. It has a strong, clear voice with an exceedingly well-developed point of view. The author actually has something very important to say. I see this novel as a great, multi-layered documentation of the overwhelming collision of socioeconomic, cultural and psychological forces, all being played out in a very specific time and place, making it deeply historical, authentic and satiric all at once. I especially love that the author's vision is profoundly ethical and displays huge heart. I think its a magnificent work of art.
This book captures the humor love, and vibrant vibe of our edgy and wondrous borough. every character, all the dialogue, the vivid palpability of our beautiful Brooklyn all shine through for a remarkably readable yarn. Loved it from start to finish--and that's from a brooklyn-ite who doesn't have patience for boring reads... Way to go Silver, let's hear more from you in the near future, please!!
Silver is a gifted writer who, like an artist, animates the distinct culture that is Park Slope, Brooklyn through her mastery of the English language. Her character development, depth of insights, historical-fiction storytelling, sense of humor, and in-the-moment grasp of human nature and the world around us make for a refreshing, laugh-out-loud read. The book is dense with real-life observations, told with emotion, grit, honesty, and directness. You can almost feel the anger and resentment or ignorance and blissfulness come through each character from chapter to chapter. And by the end of her tale, you will have experienced both the underground and mainstream worlds that, by virtue of their coexistence, keep this particularly odd and often misunderstood community evolving, yet permanently connected.
I like that this book is about gentrification and what we are going through nowadays in New York. Many topics and social issues are covered and Kriegers way or analyzing and giving her opinion through her characters is interesting. Although I don't support some of her views on social class I can say this book was a definite interesting read. I would recommend it for sure.
